Dan Friedkin under Everton transfer microscope after ‘criminal’ trophy drought

Dan Friedkin has to give Everton fans something to cheer about in the upcoming transfer window.

The possibility of qualifying for Europe has kept many fans in L3 engaged with the Toffees, but that dream now looks out of reach after the 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on 10 May.

David Moyes has done well to take the Blues from being relegation contenders last season to European contenders in the Premier League, but some supporters wonder whether his style of football is the best to bring success to Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Former Sky Sports journalist Alan Myers believes it’s “criminal” that the Merseyside outfit haven’t won a major trophy since the FA Cup in 1995.

The Friedkin Group have arguably left Moyes wanting for more with their transfer business over the last two windows and all eyes will now surely be on them to strengthen the Scottish manager’s squad.

Friedkin Group have summer transfer priority at Everton

Writing in Everton.News on 11 May, Myers said, “The size of the club, its history and the fact that seven of the managers who have been in charge of the club in the last 30 years have all won a trophy as a manager, it’s hard to understand why it hasn’t happened.

“Now I know nobody has a divine right to win anything, but for this club to go so long without silverware is bordering on criminal, metaphorically speaking.”

Everton’s transfer spend in last two windows

The Americans have brought stability back to the Toffees after appointing Moyes midway through the 2025-26 campaign.

While the Friedkins made some head-turning signings at the Blues last summer, the most significant being Jack Grealish’s loan move from Manchester City, they clearly needed to do more to improve squad depth.

In January, it was evident that the Scottish manager needed a couple of quality additions to push for a European finish in the Premier League, but Tyrique George was the only piece of business they pulled off in the winter transfer window.

Everton let their lead slip twice against Palace and Moyes has to answer questions regarding his team’s defensive frailties when it matters most.

The Toffees also capitulated in the final minutes against Man City in the 3-3 draw, dropping crucial points in the race for Europe.

With the Blues’ record at Hill Dickinson Stadium not the best this season, the Scottish manager has to undoubtedly rethink some things if he remains in charge for the upcoming campaign.

TFG’s success in L3 will surely be determined by whether they can build a squad capable of competing for some major honours in the coming years.
