Everton to reconsider Vitalii Mykolenko contract offer as weakness exposed again vs Crystal Palace
Everton must reconsider their stance on Vitalii Mykolenko’s future after the 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace.
The Ukrainian defender, who is a regular starter, was in the line-up once again as the Blues travelled to Selhurst Park.
The 26-year-old is reportedly set to stay at the Hill Dickinson Stadium beyond the end of the season, with the Toffees set to trigger the extension clause in his expiring deal.
However, that may not be the right move after the Palace result, and David Moyes may have to take a step back on the matter.
Everton could upgrade on the former Dynamo Kiev man, especially in one area of his game and that was obvious against Oliver Glasner’s side.

What weakness was exposed in Everton draw vs Palace?
Mykolenko’s lack of attacking prowess is one of Everton’s biggest weaknesses, and it was exposed against Palace again.
He completed just one cross of the three that he attempted, for a 33 per cent success rate, according to Sofascore data.
The Ukraine international also did not attempt a single shot, and he made just one progressive carry, while losing the ball nine times.
| Mykolenko’s stats vs Palace | |
| Cross accuracy | 1/3(33%) |
| Shots | 0 |
| Progressive carries | 1 |
| Clearances | 4 |
| Ground duels won | 0/1(0%) |
| Aerial duels won | 3/4(75%) |
Defensively, he is normally solid, but he did not make a tackle on this occasion, with four clearances being the only contributions that he made.
In terms of duels, he lost the only ground battle and won three out of four in the air, for a 75 per cent success rate.
What could the future hold for Mykolenko?
Everton could cope without Mykolenko, as they have Adam Aznou waiting in the wings to take over.
Moyes has shown little faith in the youngster so far, but with a season of learning under his belt, next season could be his chance to take over.

If the Scotsman does not think that he is ready, he could dip into the market for a replacement, one that can impact the attack much more than the 52-cap international.
It looks as though that will not be needed, as Mykolenko is on the verge of a contract extension, but until it is signed and confirmed, it can be taken off the table, and perhaps it should be after his latest showing.
