David Moyes to fume as John Brooks appointed referee for Everton vs Sunderland

David Moyes will still be left reeling over the handball decision in Everton’s loss to West Ham.

It was a decision that could ultimately keep the Toffees out of Europe, and the Scotsman will want limited influence from officials in the final two games.

Performances have not been as good as hoped, and the manager will admit that. However, when obvious decisions such as Mateus Fernandes’ handball do not land your way, there will be plenty of grievances.

Attention will now turn to the Toffees’ upcoming match against Sunderland, with three points an absolute must.

However, after the Premier League’s official announcement for Everton’s clash against Sunderland, the Blues’ manager may not be too happy.

John Brooks named referee for Everton vs Sunderland

The Premier League has officially announced the refereeing appointments for matchweek 37, including Everton’s showdown against Sunderland.

Referee Brooks will take the reins of the game and will be assisted by Tony Harrington, who is on VAR duties.

When it comes to referees, Brooks is on the stricter side, whistling a foul for every 0.65 tackle. However, he does only issue out 3.73 yellow cards per match on average.

Brooks does have quite a high penalty rate, awarding 0.36 per match over his 11 Premier League games officiated this season.

Why David Moyes will fume with John Brooks’ appointment

When it comes to Brooks in games involving Everton, he has taken charge of 15 matches since 2018–2019.

However, the Toffees have only won once, coming in the very first Everton game that Brooks oversaw. Since then, it has been 14 games without a win for the Merseyside outfit.

With European football hanging on by a thread as things stand, Everton need to secure all three points to have any chance of achieving that goal.

With the past record of Brooks, life will certainly be tougher, and with the match at Hill Dickinson Stadium, Moyes’ side will also have to overcome their woeful home form.

Those make two records that provide quite the pessimistic outlook for the Scotsman, and hopefully the Blues can put both behind them at the same time.

Everton will also need to nip late conceding in the bud too, with it becoming a worrying trend over the last few weeks.
