Everton are the latest club to be linked with a move for Lutsharel Geertruida.

There’s plenty of summer transfer business to be done for the Toffees upon the conclusion of the current campaign, with a clear focus needed on improving their defensive options.

Everton have lacked depth across the back four all season, and especially at right-back, where Jake O’Brien has so often been hung out to dry.

Injuries to Nathan Patterson and Seamus Coleman have hindered David Moyes’ ability to do much in that regard, though with the latter set to leave after his contract expires, a replacement is needed.

Geertruida has been linked with a move to Hill Dickinson, and if reports are accurate, it will be one of the biggest no-brainers of the summer.

It’s claimed that it will take a fee just north of £20million to sign Geertruida, which is a bargain in every sense of the word.

Not only is he a full Dutch international, but he is able to cover several positions, which is something that Moyes has previously liked.

Sunderland had the option to sign him for a fee marginally lower than that, but reports claim they have opted against that, with the defender due to return to Leipzig.

Everton can’t afford to make the same mistake and pass up on a deal, as it is exactly what they need to rectify one of their longest-standing concerns.

Arne Slot may have impact on Geertruida deal

Liverpool made an attempt to sign Geertruida in January, and reports suggest that the Reds could renew that interest in the summer.

Given the relationship he has with Arne Slot, his future is likely to have a big impact on whether that happens or not.

If Liverpool move to sack him, which is looking increasingly likely after another heavy defeat in the Premier League, Everton may have a clear run at his transfer.
