Seamus Coleman not done yet as announcement made away from Everton

Seamus Coleman is not done with football just yet, as he prepares to leave Everton.

This week, it was announced that the right-back will be making his departure after an incredibly stint on Merseyside.

Signing from Sligo Rovers 15 years ago, Coleman has seen it all at both Goodison Park and Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Still a key figure around the dressing room under David Moyes, the Irishman will be sorely missed by those associated with the club.

But he may not quite be ready to fully stop just yet as he moves on this summer.

Republic of Ireland announce squad for summer friendlies

A senior international for the majority of his career, Coleman has been a huge presence for his national team.

Ireland would miss out on World Cup qualification ahead of the summer, as they fell to a shootout defeat against the Czech Republic – there are two more friendlies to be played out, however.

Ahead of the summer fixtures, head coach Heimir Hallgrimsson confirmed on Sunday that the Toffees full-back would be a part of the squad to face both Qatar and Canada.

The experienced defender has found minutes hard to come by this term, coming on late on for his final home appearance in Everton colours against Sunderland on Sunday.

But he could still be ready to make the move elsewhere and get minutes under his belt while he sees out his career – especially if this keeps him in regular contention for the national team.

The fact he is committing to a new cycle with Ireland suggests he could be involved up to – and possibly including – Euro 2028.

Seamus Coleman deserved a ‘better’ Everton

When it comes to club icons, there aren’t many bigger than Coleman, who arguably deserved a ‘better’ Everton around him.

In his peak years, the Irishman was capable of bombing up and down the flank with ease, while he possessed natural defensive gifts.

A remarkable footballer, but also a superb leader who has more than had his influence in the dressing room.

At the peak of his time, Coleman and Leighton Baines proved fantastic for Everton, with the partnership one that could have played at the very highest level of the game.

This did not quite happen for the Irishman, who probably deserved more success than he got.

But he remained the perfect leader throughout, and one Everton fans will wish incredibly well when he moves on next week.
