Angus Kinnear is to blame for Everton’s failures this season, and nobody else
Angus Kinnear deserves all the criticism that comes his way as Everton have seemingly thrown away the chance of qualifying for Europe.
The Toffees lost 3-1 to Sunderland in the final home game at Hill Dickinson this season, helping the visitors to keep their European dream alive, while crushing their own.
David Moyes has taken a lot of flack following the defeat, and while the Everton boss has questions to answer, more people need to look upstairs.
How many times have we seen Dan Friedkin on the Banks of the Royal Mersey this season and does he actually care?
But more importantly, will Kinnear address his awful summer and winter recruitment?

What did Angus Kinnear say before the season started?
Everton had an active summer window, bringing in the likes of Tyler Dibling, Charly Alcaraz, Merlin Rohl, Thierno Barry, and Adam Aznou, all of whom Kinnear described as some of the best young talents in Europe.
The Everton CEO addressed supporters on the Toffees’ club website in the summer and claimed that Moyes is someone who has a desire to play youngsters, which has never been true, so what’s gone on there is baffling.
| Player | Premier League starts |
| Adam Aznou | 0 |
| Tyler Dibling | 4 |
| Thierno Barry | 20 |
| Charly Alcaraz | 6 |
| Merlin Rohl | 5 |
Speaking to Everton supporters in the summer, Kinnear opened up on what the priority was, and what Moyes had been given.
Kinnear said: “Our priority over the summer was to add some creative flair and attacking potency to complement what we believe is one of the division’s meanest defences.”
That’s quite simply an embarrassing sentence, considering the Toffees have a bottom-half attack in terms of goals scored, and finished the home season by conceding three.
James Tarkowski and Michael Keane have conceded more than 140 goals in their 90 games started together for the club, a stat which does not prove the Blues have on of the Premier League’s “meanest defence”

Just take a look at how Brian Brobbey bullied Tarkowski, and let’s not get started on that diabolical winter window, where Kinnear failed to bring in a new striker or a right-back, which the club will once again try to do this summer.
Everton are just one point better than last season; why is that?
The Toffees finished 13th on 48 points last campaign, and some would argue that Sean Dyche has conducted more impressive league finishes in the past.
However, Europe looked on from the winter down until the last four weeks or so, where Moyes’ side fell to defeats or draws in a record-breaking stoppage-time curse.

Late goals to Liverpool, West Ham, and Man City may have been the turning point for the Toffees’ fate, but this could have been prevented with a productive January window.
Moyes still has to play Jake O’Brien at right back, and has Tyrique George as cover for the injured Jack Grealish.
Yes, the Everton boss deserves stick, but the clueless CEO and supposed transfer guru behind it all is the one people should be angry with.
