Match of the Day weren’t waiting around to discuss Everton after their 3-1 defeat against Sunderland on Sunday afternoon.

The Toffees threw away yet another lead at Hill Dickinson Stadium to fall to another disappointing defeat in the Premier League.

They have now gone six without victory, despite being in a winning position four times across those outings.

Throwing it away against the Black Cats has only sparked further frustration as any hope of European qualification has all-but vanished in L3.

Sunderland’s win over Everton has sent them two points clear and has also prompted Match of the Day to essentially ignore David Moyes’ side.

Regis Le Bris’ side sealed all three points with three second-half goals as Enzo Le Fee and Wilson Isidor netted in the 81st and 91st minutes, respectively.

Ironically, the Blues still dominated the stats and, on paper, probably should have won the game themselves.

That obviously wasn’t the case, but it helps to paint a picture that the away side weren’t the only side that looked like winning.

Match of the Day didn’t see it that way and ultimately decided not to mention Everton at all in their post-match analysis.

They discussed Sunderland’s goals, their ability to come back from behind to win and their points tally compared to other sides promoted through the play-offs.

Those things are obviously impressive, but there will be calls that there should have been some mention of David Moyes’ side, regardless.

Everton were generally poor against Sunderland and arguably deserved to be totally ignored after their second-half performance.

Everton didn’t deserve coverage after Sunderland defeat

There isn’t much positive to say, especially about the backline, after losing to the Black Cats.

Jordan Pickford, Jake O’Brien and James Tarkowski all failed to cover themselves in glory as their second-half failings at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

The keeper made no saves and conceded three goals; the English centre-back was bounced off the ball before Brian Brobbey scored just seconds after the right-back’s shocking, misplaced pass.

O’Brien also lost two duels, committed two fouls and failed to complete a single cross or long ball on the day.

All that, combined with a shocking recent run of form, just doesn’t make the Toffees worth talking about to a national audience.

Everton have ended the campaign in the worst possible way as European qualification drifts away after looking so promising earlier in the year.
