Everton are in for a big summer with the Friedkin Group having to put their money where their mouth is.

The Blues were on the cusp of securing European football, and perhaps with a couple more arrivals, they could have brought it home.

However, this season will simply be a lesson for the ownership, and backing David Moyes in the upcoming window should be priority number one.

Everton have risen from the depths of fighting relegation, and moving more and setting more ambitious goals has to be the next step.

Everton’s transfer window could set the foundation for that, but not if they listen to what Moyes has just said.

What has David Moyes said about Everton’s summer window?

Toffees boss Moyes has issued a rallying statement for what Everton must now do to improve their position in the Premier League table.

The Scotsman has set out a transfer mandate for the owners and has now put the ball in their court. Although one thing he said makes little sense.

Moyes, as quoted by the Liverpool Echo stated: “It might mean that we just make one really top signing who makes a big difference to the team. It doesn’t necessarily mean that you’re buying six players.”

The manager went on to call out the Friedkin Group urging them to show ambition saying: “I believe that’s what we need to do [show ambition]… And I also want the ownership to show that as well. I want them to come out and show, ‘We’re here, we’re going again, we’re supporting you’.

However, the Scotsman’s comments are way off the mark. The Blues are in need of much more than just one “top” player.

Issues with failing to qualify for Europe have not hinged on that, and if the Toffees end up spending a lot of money on one singular signing, it may be a recipe for disaster.

Which positions do Everton need to buy in?

When it comes to Everton’s squad, they will need to bring in a right-back with Jake O’Brien having quite a few flaws in his game.

After all, he is not a natural fullback. The Irishman could then move back inside to the centre-back role.

Moyes will also need a couple of new attackers, on top of making the Jack Grealish move permanent. Another winger as depth as well as a more consistent number nine is required at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

While doubts around if Idrissa Gueye will sign a contract extension continue to swirl, it means Everton may need to dip into the market for a replacement.

Another centre-back could be on the agenda, despite Michael Keane signing a new contract. The Englishman is no spring chicken.

So, overall, there are quite a few positions needed, so the Blues may need to buy those six players that Moyes suggests won’t “necessarily” be brought in.
