Ex-Everton star Richarlison sends message to Anthony Gordon as Barcelona deal finalised
Former Everton striker Richarlison has reacted to Anthony Gordon’s emotional goodbye post to Newcastle as he moves to Barcelona.
The 25-year-old is joining the Catalonians in a reported deal worth £69million, having spent the last three-and-a-half years on Tyneside.
A career 2025-26 campaign for Newcastle saw the England winger net 17 times and provide five assists in 46 total appearances across all competitions.
With Eddie Howe’s side recording a disappointing 12th-placed finish in the Premier League last term, the Mags have decided to cash in on Gordon’s excellent season to bag themselves a healthy cash injection.
It’s already one of the biggest moves of a summer transfer window that hasn’t even officially opened yet, with Gordon coming a long way since joining Everton’s academy ranks as an 11-year-old.

How has Richarlison reacted to Anthony Gordon Barcelona move?
In a December 2017 first-team Everton debut against Apollon Limassol in the Europa League, Gordon became the first ever player born in the 21st century to turn out for the Toffees, aged just 16.
He had to remain patient for a path to senior stardom though, with more years spent playing academy football with a handful of first-team appearances, before truly arriving on the scene in the 2021-22 season.
| Gordon’s Everton story | Answer |
| Joined | Summer, 2017 |
| First-team debut | December, 2017 |
| Signed five-year deal in | September, 2020 |
| Joined Newcastle | January, 2023 |
| Appearances | 78 |
Gordon would only spend 18 months as an established first-team player on Merseyside though, before signing for Newcastle in a £45m deal in January 2023.
However, his only full season with the Toffees, 2021-22, would also turn out to be Richarlison’s final campaign at Goodison Park too.
The Brazilian scored 13 goals and provided five assists in 33 total appearances that term, with Gordon playing 40 times, netting four times and chipping in with three assists respectively.
And, now that his move to Barcelona has gone through, the winger has taken to his Instagram account to pen a lengthy goodbye message to Newcastle, under which Richarlison has replied.
The now-Tottenham Tottenham forward simply responded with a clapping hands emoji, clearly showing that he still keeps in contact with his former Everton teammate.
Are Everton getting anything from Gordon’s Barcelona move?
Nowadays, when a player with big potential moves to another team, the selling club routinely includes a sell-on fee or some kind of clause(s) that enable them to enjoy future paydays on that player.
Everton held a 15 per cent sell-on clause for Gordon when they sold him to Newcastle, which has turned out to be a shrewd move by the Toffees.
As a result, the club will now receive a slice of the pie regarding his switch to Barcelona, but just how much are they going to receive?

• Everton due £3.8m + £3m solidarity
• #NUFC £38m profit on sale
• £13m into 26-27 SCR calc
• Under 85% rule, £11m extra spending capacity – before considering wages

Well, according to The Athletic’s football finance writer Chris Weatherspoon, Everton are due £3.8m plus an additional £3m in solidarity payments for Gordon’s transfer, taking their total to £6.8m.
Not a huge sum of cash by today’s standards, but it’s an injection of funds all the same that could be put towards securing a summer transfer of their own in the coming weeks, or perhaps reinvested into the football club elsewhere.
