David Moyes to be left with familiar concern as Everton eye Aaron Wan-Bissaka transfer

David Moyes will be hoping that a new right-back is first through the door at Everton this summer.

Having ended the season winless in their last seven, it’s clear that the Toffees have a lot of work to do this summer if they are to progress on the pitch.

Recruitment will play a crucial role in that, with Everton in need of more attacking quality, as well as cover across several areas of the squad.

Wan-Bissaka has been linked with a move to Hill Dickinson in the wake of West Ham’s relegation from the Premier League on the final day.

And while it may seem like a good signing for Everton on paper, there would still be one clear concern that would linger.

What would Aaron Wan-Bissaka bring?

Wan-Bissaka, first and foremost, would give Moyes the option to utilise an out-and-out right-back, which has not been the case this season.

Both Seamus Coleman and Nathan Patterson have struggled with injuries, with Jake O’Brien usually forced to step in in their absence.

On top of that, the former Man United star has gained a reputation for his excellent defensive skills, which would be a handy tool to have.

Only 4.8 per cent of Premier League full-backs averaged more interceptions per 90 than him, while only 8.3 per cent of them were dribbled past on fewer occasions.

However, for each positive, there is one clear drawback, which leaves them in a similar scenario to when O’Brien features.

Everton must address burning issue at right-back

Wan-Bissaka would improve Everton, at least defensively.

But going forward, he would offer very little, and that is something that they need to work on.

Wan-Bissaka ranks among the bottom 20 per cent of full-backs for his pass completion, and barely above average for the number of chances created.

Both are crucial aspects of a modern-day full-back, leaving the Toffees to question whether a deal for the West Ham star would be right.
