Everton loanee Neal Maupay mocks Manchester United star Antony amid footage of FA Cup incident
Everton loanee Neal Maupay has mocked Manchester United star Antony after he cupped his ears at the Coventry players following their FA Cup semi-final win.
The Brazilian was seen goading the Championship stars after the Reds progressed to a second consecutive FA Cup final at Wembley, but only after they squandered a 3-0 lead and were saved by VAR in the 122nd minute via a narrow offside decision.
After BBC Sport posted footage of the moment the incident occurred, often-controversial figure Maupay responded to the video on his personal X account (23 April) to mock the attacker.
“Just for the record, not even I would do this,” he wrote, followed by a crying emoji.
Does Neal Maupay have a future at Everton?
If Maupay is telling someone that they’ve gone too far with their wind-up merchant antics, then it’s time to listen and stop what you’re doing.
Antony completely embarrassed himself with the incident, but considering some of the flare-ups that Maupay has been part of this season with players like James Maddison and Kyle Walker he’s probably not the best person to be offering advice.
But the French striker has been able to revitalise his career away from Goodison Park this season after returning on loan to Brentford, and now there are questions about his next step.
Whether Everton are in the Premier League or Championship next season remains to be seen and that will no doubt have a big say on what happens with Maupay.
But an exit seems all but inevitable, whether it be back to Brentford or elsewhere, because Sean Dyche made it clear by letting him leave that he isn’t part of the plans going forward at Goodison Park.
In other Everton news, a lawyer has claimed that the Premier League have “serious questions” to answer about Chelsea’s accounts after what happened to the Toffees.
