Sky Sports pundit excited Everton boss Frank Lampard might get Levi Colwill from Chelsea

We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…

It would be a “really good move” for Frank Lampard to bring Levi Colwill to Everton from his old club Chelsea says Kevin Campbell.

Express reporter Ryan Taylor reported that the Toffees are one of a number clubs who want to sign the 19-year-old defender this summer after a strong campaign on loan at Huddersfield in 2021/22.

The manager is apparently ready to “push” to bring him in despite already securing former Burnley centre back James Tarkowski and Sky Sports pundit Campbell thinks he is an ideal candidate to add to the squad at Goodison who could cover a number of positions, and thinks it could happen.

Speaking exclusively to Goodison News Campbell explained he thought Lampard raiding Chelsea was a good idea, saying: “I think so. He knows the players, he knows the club.

“He knows what the attitude is like. He knows if these boys could handle the pressure.

“Colwill’s had a fantastic season at Huddersfield, just missed out on getting promotion, played at Wembley.

“I thought he’d done marvellous, he’d done really, really well, and he deserves a chance.

“Really does deserve a chance, so I could see that happening.

“He’s young, he’s fit, he’s strong.

“And he can play left or right back I think.

“So you’ve got someone there who fits the bill and can plug a gap if you’re having any problems.

“I think that would be a really good move.”

Everton

The Chelsea links have hopes high that the Stamford Bridge hero in charge at Everton can bring in some quality players from his old stomping ground this summer, especially since transfer funds are at a premium.

Loan moves are restricted to one per club so if Lampard has his eye on any of the younger prospects that Thomas Tuchel wants to keep he needs to identify the one who he wants the most.

Otherwise the hope has to be that the goodwill he maintains in west London might facilitate permanent deals that could be structured in a way that works within the club’s current strict budget.
