Jim Proudfoot was left wowed by Ashley Young after the "spectacular" free-kick he bagged for Everton against Wolves.

The right-back stepped up to the set-piece that was just on the edge of the box and managed to curl the ball around Wolves' wall and coolly place it in the bottom corner.

Speaking live on Amazon Prime Sport (4 December), Proudfoot shared his thoughts on the defender's goal.

"Decent strike, past the wall, past Jose Sa, Ashley Young breaks Everton's goal drought in spectacular style," he said.

Everton were leading 2-0 at half-time at Goodison Park with Orel Mangala doubling the lead.

Sean Dyche's faith in Ashley Young at Everton has paid off

When Young was brought to Goodison Park in 2023, it's highly unlikely that he anticipated he'd get as much game time as he has, especially now at the age of 39.

The right-back was brought in as a backup for Seamus Coleman and Nathan Patterson but due to both being sidelined for extended periods due to injury, Young has been a regular feature for Dyche this term.

Despite his advancing years and the fact he has polarised opinions at times, Young has been one of the Toffees' best defenders and his free-kick against Wolves proves why he's still a rather valuable asset.

Wednesday's game against Gary O'Neil's men is one of the most important of their season so far and if they come away from Goodison Park with all three points, they'll be in a far better place than when the game started.

Of course, only 45 minutes of the game has been played so far and plenty can change but with Everton 2-0 up, things are looking good for the Toffees.
