Goodison View: Everton must let loan star go amid reported transfer talks

The transfer business at Everton in recent years has been criticised vociferously of late, and with good reason too.

However, the loan signing of versatile full back Djibril Sidibe from Monaco last summer was seen as something of a coup.

The inconsistent form he has displayed for the Toffees this season, though, has demonstrated why the Ligue 1 side were willing to let him leave.

He’s not been horrible, but the France international cannot be relied upon to perform at a high level week in week out.

Perhaps, though, the club have been given something of a lifeline. That’s because Le10Sport reported on Tuesday that Italian heavyweights AC Milan have held talks with the player’s representatives over a move to the Serie A giants.

It’s thought that the Toffees have a £12million purchase option in Sidibe’s loan contract, but Milan are obviously looking to swoop in.

Sidibe has had several fine performances for the Blues, but is he worth keeping around when Jonjoe Kenny is due to return to Goodison Park next summer?

Surely the Englishman will take the 27-year-old’s role next term, while he has a five year age advantage over the Monaco ace.

You’d have to think, then, that Carlo Ancelotti would be well advised to let Sidibe go to Milan rather than splash out on an inconsistent defender.

In other Everton news, a German heavyweight is thought to be eyeing a swoop for one Toffees star.
