Goodison News View: Everton star surely set to burst into life

The Everton supporters had been waiting a long time for striker Moise Kean’s first goal for the club, and on Tuesday night he finally delivered.

The Italy international opened the scoring in the Toffees’ bizarre 2-2 draw with Newcastle United at Goodison Park, in which the hosts threw away a two-goal lead they possessed heading into stoppage time.

Despite the intense frustration of the game’s last few minutes, Kean’s goal was a fantastic moment which was well deserved.

The 19-year-old hasn’t been perfect since his big money move from Juventus last summer, but he’s been steadily improving of late.

Manager Carlo Ancelotti was very impressed by what the youngster offered up: “He scored his goal. It was good for him for his confidence,” he told the Liverpool Echo.

“For a striker to score goals is really important. After that he played really well. He chased loose balls, he worked hard, pressed forward. What I asked, he did.”

Ancelotti is spot on, there. For a few weeks now Kean has been offering a lot in terms of his work-rate and his overall game, even if the goal didn’t arrive until Tuesday.

It’s easy to forget that he’s only started five Premier League games this season, while he rarely plays 90 minutes. So it’s been hard for him to get up to speed.

In this game, though, he showed what he can do. He had three shots, all of which were on target, while he had three successful dribbles and was fouled three times as well. All this to the tune of a WhoScored rating of 8.42.

It certainly feels like, after that sort of performance, that Kean is about to burst into life, and nobody will be more happy if that proves true than the man himself.

In other Everton news, a former England international has raved over the performance of one Toffees star on Tuesday.
