Goodison News View: Summer Everton swoop for star winger could be ideal

Although Everton undoubtedly need signings right now, this month, that doesn’t mean that they can’t have an eye on the future, as well.

When a club refuses to do a deal in January, as many do, then you have no choice but to look towards the summer.

In the case of Roma winger Cengiz Under, that’s just what the Toffees are doing. Turkish outlet Turkish Football reported on Sunday that the club had made contact with the Serie A side to see if he was available this month.

Roma, though, were unwilling to discuss him leaving this month. However, the Blues remain interested in the 22-year-old and are ready to move again for him at the end of the season.

The Italian heavyweights value the Turkey international at £34million, and the player himself favours a move to the Premier League.

Under’s stock has fallen a little after a disappointing season thus far for Paolo Fonseca’s side, but he remains a top talent who Carlo Ancelotti would surely relish getting the best out of.

He’s only scored two goals this season, but he showed what he was about with a terrific strike against Genoa recently.

Ancelotti needs better quality in the final third, and the thought of pairing Under with the likes of Richarlison, Bernard and Dominic Calvert-Lewin is absolutely salivating.

So while a move for the Turkish sensation may have to be put on hold for a few months, it’s worth the Toffees coming back in for the winger as soon as the summer transfer window opens.

In other Everton news, a former Blues defender has ripped into one particular signing made in recent years.
