Carragher heaps praise on in-form Everton star
The praise that has been coming Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s way in recent weeks has gotten all a bit much, hasn’t it?
It’s all ‘England call-up’ this and ‘he’s fixed the one issue in his game’ that. Boy, it’s become very wearying…
In all seriousness, though, the 22-year-old deserves everything coming his way for his improvement this season.
His strike against Arsenal last weekend made it 14 in all competitions for the Englishman, a fantastic total at this stage.
Even former Liverpool great Jamie Carragher can’t help put gush over the progress the Toffees’ number nine has made.
“I’ve always been a massive fan of Calvert-Lewin, I have,” he told Everton’s official website. “I’ve always really liked him.

“The thing that’s always let him down is goals. I know people will say that’s the obvious thing for a centre forward, [but] he almost ticked every other box.
“His aerial ability; his pace; his strength; making runs also, making it really difficult for defenders.
“He’s the type of lad you wouldn’t want to play against. If I was a centre back: ‘oh, that’s going to be a tough game’.”
How good is Calvert-Lewin nowadays?
He’s been remarkable over the past two or three months. The majority of his goals this season have come in that period.
As Carragher says, he always worked extremely hard, he always made life difficult for the opposition. Now, he’s banging them in on a regular basis.
He’s become an all-round centre forward, and the influence of both Carlo Ancelotti and Duncan Ferguson has been huge for him.
If he can sustain this form until the end of the season then he should undoubtedly be in England’s Euro 2020 squad.
In other Everton news, the club have been linked with a game-changing £25million swoop for a Serie A midfielder.
