The race for Southampton midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg seems to be at boiling point with both Everton and Tottenham interested.

It has been reported by talkSPORT that the Toffees have had a £25million bid accepted for the Danish midfielder, who has already agreed terms at Goodison Park.

Hojbjerg has grown unhappy at Saint Mary's and Ralph Hassenhuttl has been left with no choice but to sell one of his prize assets.

With Tottenham also strongly interested though, there has been suggestions that they could hijack the move.

The transfer window isn't officially open until Monday, so that is definitely possible with the last round of fixtures yet to be concluded.

Reliable journalist Alex Crook has reported on his personal Twitter account that the only way that Hojbjerg joins Tottenham is if they meet the £25million asking price.

With nearly a week to go until the transfer window opens, this one is surely set to take more twists and turns.

Everton

The Guardian has reported that Spurs are still highly confident of beating Everton to the signing of Hojbjerg.

It is suggested that Jose Mourinho has a clear plan for the 24-year-old, who wants him to play in front of his back four next season.

This could come down to who Hojbjerg wants to play for next season, Mourinho or Carlo Ancelotti, with the Italian admitting that the Toffees board are strongly backing him this summer.

Southampton do want Kyle Walker-Peters from Spurs, and that could play against Everton in their pursuit for a midfielder over the summer.
