Everton are set to rival Leeds United for the signature of Manchester United goalkeeper Sergio Romero over the summer.

That's according to ESPN who have reported that the Toffees want the Argentinian who was shocked to be left out against West Ham on Wednesday.

David De Gea has not had the best of campaigns in the Premier League, and the South American has been unhappy with his lack of minutes.

ESPN have reported that Leeds see Romero has a keeper who could kickstart their plans for the Premier League after winning the Championship title.

Everton only view the 33-year-old as competition to Jordan Pickford, who himself has had no real challengers for the number one shirt at Goodison Park.

That could work against Carlo Ancelotti, who will also have to rival Romero's fellow Argentinian Marcelo Bielsa for the keeper at Old Trafford.

Everton

Pickford has made a number of errors in the Premier League this season, but only Marten Stekelenburg has been offering competition. Jonas Lossl spent the majority of the season on loan at Huddersfield and could be on his way out.

Comparing Pickford to Romero, this is exactly what the England international could need at this moment.

The South American is capped 96 times for Argentina and has kept 38 clean sheets in his 59 appearances for the Red Devils since joining.

That experience could be vital to push Pickford hard past this season, and Ancelotti could be making a smart move at Goodison Park.
