‘One of the best’ – Former coach backs Everton ace to bounce back from heavy criticism
It has been yet another disappointing season for Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford in the Premier League.
The England international has made a number of notable mistakes and has come under scrutiny in all formats of the game.
The former goalkeeping coach of Pickford has backed the stopper to bounce back from criticism once again, claiming he is one of the best he has worked with.
Lee Butler believes that the Everton keeper has it all, and named every attribute that makes him the “overall package”.
“He’s one of the best I’ve worked with,” he told the Liverpool Echo.
“I can’t think of anyone who’s really touched him as an overall package. Jordan’s got the lot. He makes big saves and has the character and personality to play on the big stage for club and country.
“His positivity is great, coming for crosses and through-balls. He just wants to be involved and when he makes the odd mistake, it’s a positive mistake he learns from.
“He’s high-profile with England and Everton and whenever he’s made mistakes, he’s come back stronger than ever. He really is mentally strong and it’s a good attribute to have.”
His mistake in the final day defeat against Bournemouth summed it up, with Jamie Carragher even labelling his effort as “embarrassing” after the game.
It wasn’t just that mistake that he made, another one against Newcastle earlier in the season cost his side all three points despite being 2-0 to the good after 90 minutes.
According to ESPN, Everton are interested in Manchester United stopper Sergio Romero. If that move was completed, Pickford could find his spot under real scrutiny – something that will surely motivate him to improve next season.
