Reliable journalist shares update on Everton pursuit of £25m star, Brands left frustrated
Everton and Carlo Ancelotti are looking to bring in a defender over the summer to strengthen at Goodison Park.
The one name that keeps popping up is Lille’s Gabriel Magalhaes, with the Toffees fighting a number of Premier League clubs for the South American.
Arsenal and Manchester United are also interested in the defender, with Everton ready to fight to get their man, although it might not be that easy.
The Athletic’s Greg O’Keeffe and Alex Stewart have delivered an update, with Everton hoping to complete a £25million deal as their first move of the summer.
According to the report, the deal is still in the balance with Arsenal also very strongly interested in the South American.
Marcel Brands has been left frustrated with the fact that Everton’s transfer business has been leaked into the national press over the past month.
The Toffees have been linked with moves for both Magalhaes and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, and Brands was not happy with that information being out.
Magalhaes would slot straight into the side next season if he did join, and it would likely be one of Michael Keane or Yerry Mina that could have to move on.
Mason Holgate was phenomenal last year in his first full season in the Premier League, and he will most likely partner Magalhaes if the move is confirmed.
Jarrad Branthwaite was utilised in the final handful of games last season, mainly due to the injury worries in the squad which would disappear with a fresh face.
