Transfer blow for Everton as target looks set to stay put following impressive display
Everton transfer target Fikayo Tomori looks set to stay at Chelsea, after he impressed Frank Lampard with his performance against Liverpool.
Everton have been linked with a loan move for Tomori, after it seemed the England defender would struggle for game time at Stamford Bridge, following the acquisition of Thiago Silva.
But he came off the bench at half time against Liverpool, following the sending off of Andreas Christensen in the first half, and despite the final 2-0 score line, Tomori impressed his manager.
Speaking after the Liverpool game, Lampard said,
“He did really well Tomori I have to say, and he hasn’t played for a while, and he’s struggled for fitness like the rest of the squad, and I was delighted with him. So I’m really pleased.
“I hope he feels the trust in him. He saw that last year, he started pre-season last year as fifth centre back in most people’s minds and played 20 plus times for Chelsea, I have got confidence in him.”
Everton beat newly promoted West Brom 5-2 last weekend, and while Everton looked good going forward, the Toffee’s defence was underwhelming, and they did not cover themselves in glory, especially for West Brom’s first.
Michael Keane and Yerry Mina backed off and let Baggies winger Grady Diangana run unchallenged at Jordan Pickford’s goal, before the West Brom attacker lashed the ball into the Everton net.
This prompted a look of absolute disbelief from Carlo Ancelotti on the side lines, and may push the Everton boss into the transfer market.
But if any new defenders arrive at Goodison Park, it looks like Tomori won’t be one of them, as he looks set to stay at Stamford Bridge and fight to regain his place in Chelsea’s first team ahead of Thiago Silva, Kurt Zouma, Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger.
Everton travel to Selhurst Park next in the Premier League and will be looking to continue their winning start to the season, but they will be up against it against a Crystal Palace side who also boast a 100% record this season.
