Tony Bellew has jumped to the defence of Everton keeper Jordan Pickford after recent criticism of the stopper making numerous mistakes.

The England international once again gifted a goal against Fleetwood on Tuesday, failing to clear the ball despite having heaps of time.

His Toffees teammates eventually bailed him out of trouble, sealing a safe passage into round four of the Carabao Cup with a 5-2 win.

Bellew claimed that Pickford remains an amazing keeper and that he has full faith in him when between the sticks at Goodison Park.

"Everyone is going on about Jordan Pickford," he told BBC 5 Live Sport.

"Let's just be straight up - the kid is an amazing goalkeeper.

"I have ultimate faith in him."

Everton

How many mistakes can someone make before having faith in them is simply impossible?

Pickford continues to make mistakes and put his side in danger, to the point where they would be outweighing his good contributions.

The England international is lucky that Carlo Ancelotti and the Toffees don't have any senior competition for him, with Joao Virginia the only back-up keeper at the club as things stand.

Everton have been linked with a number of keepers throughout the summer, and it will be a confidence boost for Pickford if they don't bring anyone else in, as he will know that his club, and not only Bellew, has ultimate faith in him.
