Exclusive: Campbell raises concerns over Lamptey signing with Everton linked
We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…
Kevin Campbell has his doubts about Brighton defender Tariq Lamptey as the youngster was linked with a move to Everton.
The Athletic claim that Everton are one of several clubs monitoring the defender after his impressive start to the season.
Campbell does think that the 20-year-old is a good player but he isn’t sure about the defender’s injury record.
Speaking to Goodison News, Campbell said, “I think he’s a good player.
“Lamptey has had a decent start but really he’s not had a full season under his belt. So you’re buying talent but you’re hoping that he can be as competitive as [Seamus] Coleman has been.

“Lamptey looks a good signing but he’s had his injuries this season so you need consistency.”
Lamptey has been impressive this season and the Blues need a long term Coleman replacement as the 32-year-old isn’t getting any younger.
There are few right-backs in the world who are rated as highly as Lamptey and he may look to move to a bigger club in the summer if he doesn’t want to keep fighting relegation with the Seagulls.
There is no doubting his potential but his injury record is concerning.
The defender has missed Brighton’s last six Premier League games with a hamstring injury and the last thing the Toffees need is another defender who is prone to spells on the sidelines.
Despite his absence, Lamptey has managed to score once and assist three goals in 11 Premier League outings this term which will interest Carlo Ancelotti as the Italian likes defenders who can attack.
Lucas Digne is one such defender and if Lamptey could create as many chances as the Frenchman does then he would be a fine addition to any side.
