Everton Exclusive: King ‘can really help’ Calvert-Lewin as striker option – Campbell

We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…

Kevin Campbell has hailed the options Everton have when it comes to managing their forward men in the Premier League.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin could return for the Blues in time for this weekend’s Merseyside derby after picking up a knock.

Campbell claims that following the deadline day signing of Josh King, Carlo Ancelotti now has the ability to manage his forward options.

Speaking to Goodison News, Campbell said, “They’ve got to be able to manage the squad. Having King there can really help because Calvert-Lewin has that strain.

“They don’t have to rush him, that’s the important thing. They don’t have to rush him back because they’ve got somebody who can cover.

“That’s really important for the football club and Calvert-Lewin can hopefully come back in soon.”

Calvert-Lewin has started all but two of our league matches this season and has only been subbed off four times due to a lack of striker cover.

Cenk Tosun wasn’t a viable option to replace DCL but now he has gone to Besiktas and we have King, Ancelotti has the chance to rotate his forwards.

DCL is obviously the number one option but King has the ability to score goals in the Premier League.

His addition will give our star man a chance to have a rest in an incredibly congested season which will benefit us majorly.

If King can start scoring a few goals for us as well then the deal to sign the former Bournemouth man will look even better.

In other Everton news, a number of Everton supporters have criticised Mason Holgate’s performance in the club’s 2-0 loss to Fulham at Goodison Park on Sunday.
