Everton can have their own N'Golo Kante if Marcel Brands signs Pape Sarr

Everton want to sign Metz midfielder Pape Sarr and he could be quite a find for Marcel Brands.

The 18-year-old has enjoyed a fine breakthrough season in Ligue 1, sparking interest from Manchester United and Chelsea, as well as the Toffees, per the Daily Mail.

Metz want £27million for Sarr, which highlights his quality, but he could be a brilliant signing for Everton.

We have failed to replace Idrissa Gueye since he moved to PSG in 2019.

Carlo Ancelotti signed Allan to fll that gap last summer but he has been injured for much of the season and is more of a ball-player than Gueye or Sarr.

The wonderkid is more akin to his compatriot Gueye or N’Golo Kante.

That pair pride themselves on an ability to disrupt opponents and break up play, they are restless and relentless in the way they close down space and their opponents.

And Sarr fits that mould, with 2.1 tackles and 1.3 interceptions per game, per WhoScored.

The Mail describes him as a player with “technical ability, an eye for goal and high energy to play box to box”.

That reminds us of Kante, with the added bonus that Sarr poses an attacking threat.

Three goals in 21 games at 18 is a fairly respectable return, but we expect his priority will be stopping the opposition if he signed for Everton.

After all, we have goalscoring midfielders like James Rodriguez and Gylfi Sigurdsson, while Andre Gomes keeps midfield ticking over with his passing.

Sarr’s style fits into exactly what we need to create a balanced midfield, and since he is so young he is only going to get better.

The youngster is good on the ball too, like Kante, with 84% pass accuracy this season compared to the Chelsea star’s 87% [WhoScored].

That helps explain why Metz academy manager Olivier Perrin likened Sarr to Barcelona’s Miralem Pjanic recently, while also describing him as a “top player” [Senogo].

Everton have a chance to land the next big thing in Sarr and if he goes on to be anything like Kante we will have landed a true star.
