Real Madrid target Carlo Ancelotti as a potential replacement for Zinedine Zidane

Real Madrid have targeted Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti as a potential successor to Zinedine Zidane, according to the Mirror.

Zidane’s future is up in the air as although he still has a year left on his contract, there has been speculation he could resign.

Goal report that the Frenchman told his players last week that he would step down as Madrid boss at the end of the season.

And it is believed that Ancelotti is still admired by those at Los Blancos, so billionaire owner Florentino Perez [Forbes] could try and entice him back to the Bernabeu if Zidane leaves.

A tempting offer

We like to think that Ancelotti would reject any management opportunity that comes up.

He has stated previously that he wants to be here for a few years, at least until we move stadium, and clearly he is at the beginning of a project on Merseyside.

However, a huge club like Real Madrid is almost impossible to reject, perhaps even for Ancelotti who has managed them before.

Farhad Moshiri must do everything he can to persuade Ancelotti to stay if Madrid do come knocking.

We have never had a manager of his prestige and under his stewardship we have a real chance to establish ourselves amongst the Premier League big six.

Pep Guardiola has immense respect for the Italian, calling him an “incredible gentlemen” [ESPN] – there is no bigger endorsement in world football currently.

He must be given what he wants to stay, therefore, and we must tell the Spanish giants to look elsewhere if that time comes.
