Kieran Trippier to cost Everton £15m this summer - Report

Everton will have to pay a fee in the region of £15-20million if they are to secure the services of Atletico Madrid right-back Kieran Trippier.

According to The Daily Mirror, Atletico want a sizeable sum to part ways with their defender who played a pivotal role in guiding them to the league title.

The 30-year-old, who’s enjoyed a new lease of life in Spain, is understood to be open to returning to England, with Manchester United believed to be his preferred destination.

However, he’s likelier to find more game time at Everton, who according to The Daily Mail, have been offered the chance to sign him this summer.

The Toffees are open to the idea of welcoming the England international who’s been capped 27 times to Goodison Park as they’re keen on signing a right-back.

Max Aarons was understood to be at the top of their list, but failure to get the Norwich defender has seen the Toffees venture for alternatives.

It seemed that Trippier’s influence at the top was finished after the 2018 World Cup as he struggled the following season at Tottenham Hotspur before leaving for Spain.

However, the player has redefined himself under Diego Simeone and makes a shout for a starting berth in Gareth Southgate’s squad for the Euros later this month.

Trippier would not only serve as Seamus Coleman’s backup but there’s a good chance that he plays ahead of the Irishman.

He offers more of a threat going forward than the Everton captain, and at 32 Coleman seems to be on his final legs and could pass the baton on to Trippier who’s two years his junior and in the form of his life.

Emile Heskey described him as ‘phenomenal’ in 2019 [Sky Sports via HITC] and he likely would say the same thing today, having watched him lift the La Liga trophy last month.

Eventually, we’re going to have to look for someone younger to be Coleman’s long-term successor, but we could settle for Trippier if none of our targets in their early or mid-20s are attainable this summer as we desperately need to add to our full-back depth for next season.
