Everton will eye £13.5m-rated Jefferson Lerma if Eddie Howe is appointed - Report
Everton are reportedly exploring the possibility of signing Bournemouth midfielder Jefferson Lerma if Eddie Howe is appointed their new manager.
According to the Colombian edition of Marca, the South American is likely to be reunited with the 2014/15 Championship winner at Goodison Park.
The player has been on the cusp of an exit, amid links to Spanish clubs, but should he want to stay in England, Everton will be a potential landing spot, given the fact that he’s worked under the stewardship of the former Bournemouth manager.
The managerial chase has gone through numerous twists and turns, and even after a week since Carlo Ancelotti’s departure, there is no clear favourite for the Toffees job.
The likes of Nuno Espirito Santo, Christophe Galtier, David Moyes, Antonio Conte, have all been mentioned, but there’s no clarity as to who will be handed the keys to the helm at Goodison Park.
Not sure about him
Our midfield seems to have the quality to mount a realistic top-six challenge, and even if the new manager wanted to strengthen it, it’s unlikely that Lerma is the right one for the job.
Since moving to Bournemouth he hasn’t exactly set the world alight and would be a squad player at best if he moves to Everton in the summer.
Lerma has played close to 30 games for his country and the exposure of playing both overseas and in England, but technically he might not be quite what we need.
He’s unlikely to start ahead of Allan, Abdoulaye Doucoure or even Andre Gomes for that matter. The former Barcelona midfielder is arguably the most expendable from the trio, and we need to sign a quality creative player – something which Lerma clearly isn’t.
He sits in the bottom 10 percent of all midfielders (Europe’s top five leagues) for Expected Assists and is in the bottom 20 percent for passes completed and progressive passes per 90 minutes. [StatsBomb]
Transfermarkt value the player at £13.5 million – and while that’s not out of our price range, we certainly have better options out there.
