Nuno overwhelming favourite to be next Everton manager
Nuno Espirito Santo is now the “overwhelming favourite” to be the next manager at Everton, according to the Daily Mail.
The newspaper reports that despite this, the Blues are eyeing up other alternatives in case they are unable to hire the ex-Wolves boss.
Rafa Benitez seems to be the Blues’ second-favourite while Christophe Galtier, Manuel Pellegrini, Graham Poter and Roberto Martinez are also in the running.
Everton should not rush the process of hiring a new manager but they definitely should not be taking too long to find Carlo Ancelotti’s successor.
If they do, we could be well into the summer transfer window by the time a replacement is found and by then, he could have missed out on some players he wanted to sign or Marcel Brands has been forced into action and signed someone he doesn’t want.
It’s a bad scenario, of course. And it’s also an unlikely one.
But that doesn’t mean the Blues shouldn’t be prepared for missing out on Nuno, who’s very clearly their number one target.
Nuno worked wonders at Wolves and was surprisingly let go by the Molineux club at the end of the season.
Some fans will point to the disappointing campaign Wolves had this time out but really, they need to look at his time in the Midlands as a whole.
The Portuguese manager, who was born on the African island of São Tomé and Príncipe, can do a good job if he’s able to build his own squad, use his links to super-agent Jorge Mendes and get given time.
If Farhad Moshiri, Bill Kenwright and Brands sort that for Nuno, we’re convinced he can be a success.
In other Everton news, Jim White dropped a suggestion after a huge development at a Premier League club on Wednesday.
