Chris Sutton: Patrik Schick is similar to Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin
Czech Republic star Patrik Schick has been compared with Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin by Chris Sutton.
The Bayer Leverkusen striker produced a moment of magic against Scotland on Monday, scoring from 50 yards to bag a goal-of-the-tournament contender.
The Scots also found it difficult to cope with Schick’s aerial dominance, with the Bundesliga star out-jumping their defence for his opener.
Sutton was impressed with the Czech international masterclass at the European Championship, and he says the striker reminds him of a certain Toffees star.
“I’m sure Schick could do a job in the Premier League if any clubs are looking for a striker — and they’ll be well aware of his presence after his goals against Scotland,” the BBC pundit wrote in the Daily Mail.
“He’s got a bit of Dominic Calvert-Lewin about him.”
True
Calvert-Lewin would have seen himself in Schick on Monday given their similar physical frame and style of play, and will be keen to have his own Euro 2020 moment.
The Everton ace came off the bench to replace Raheem Sterling in the dying seconds of England’s 1-0 win over Croatia on Sunday.
That was not enough for him to have any chance in front of goal, and he would hope to have more minutes against Scotland and the Czech Republic.
While Harry Kane is expected to lead the line against Schick’s side, manager Gareth Southgate should not hesitate to use Calvert-Lewin if need be.
He could prove to be a valuable attacking weapon off the bench and give the Czech defence a torrid time.
Everton could do with another striker this summer, and while he has not been linked, we think Schick could be a perfect fit.
A front two of him and DCL would cause loads of problems for Premier League defences.
