Everton owner Farhad Moshiri sends written offer to Nuno Espirito Santo

Farhad Moshiri has sent a written offer to Nuno Espirito Santo for him to become the next Everton manager but the pursuit of the ex-Wolves boss has “slowed down”, according to Daily Mail journalist Dominic King.

Writing on the Mail website on Wednesday, King reports that Moshiri has decided that Nuno is the man he wants in charge at Goodison Park and wanted to unveil him as the next manager at the end of the weekend.

It is understood that the Iranian sent an offer to the Portuguese but the appointment hasn’t moved as fast as expected and that has reportedly opened to door for Rafa Benitez, who’s also held talks about succeeding Carlo Ancelotti at Goodison.

Don’t wait too long

While we understand that Everton don’t want to rush their managerial appointment, we’re also becoming a bit frustrated by how long it’s taking.

If Nuno is your man – get him. It’s as simple as that.

Benitez seems to be second in the running for the job but when money isn’t tight at Goodison and Nuno is the man you want, it’s a bit of a head-scratcher as to why this hasn’t become a done deal just yet.

Nuno was at a late stage of talks with Crystal Palace before he was back on the radar at Goodison Park so it remains to be seen what the hold-up actually is.

But it’s slightly disappointing – and worrying – that nothing has happened since reports emerged at the back-end of last week that the former Wolves manager was set to take charge at the Blues.

Benitez is there as a safety net if talks to hire Nuno go awry but how well will that be received if the Toffees do end up hiring the ex-Liverpool boss?

We think that it shouldn’t matter too much and his managerial merits should be the number one thing taken into consideration.

We’ve also repeated the point that while Benitez once called us a “small club”, his appointment would annoy Liverpool fans far more than it would the Evertonians.
