Everton target Matheus Nunes likely to exit Sporting CP
Matheus Nunes is heading towards leaving Sporting CP amid interest from Everton and Newcastle, according to A Bola.
The Portuguese news outlet claims Sporting want to raise funds this summer despite winning the Portuguese league title and Nunes, 22, is the closest to the exit.
It is understood that while no offers have been made as of yet, Sporting are hoping to raise up to £21.5million for the Brazilian midfielder.
One step at a time
If Everton want to press on with adding to their playing squad then they need to address the managerial situation as soon as possible.
Nuno Espirito Santo looked as though he was set to be appointed by the Toffees but an update by talkSPORT suggests that deal has stalled amid rising interest in Rafa Benitez from Farhad Moshiri.
While we know that Marcel Brands is in charge of transfers at Goodison Park, the Dutchman needs to work with the next manager of the club and not go above their head to make any deals.
Nunes seems like he’d be a good player.
We could do with some strengthening in the centre of the midfield and the Brazilian ace has been crucial for Sporting CP in their title-winning season by playing 39 times in all competitions.
Sporting want a lot of money for the South American and £21.5million might be more than what the Toffees are willing to pay.
It should all depend on the next manager though.
If Brands is keen then that’s fine but Nuno, Benitez or whoever replaces Carlo Ancelotti needs to be on the same wavelength and share their ideas for strengthening the squad.
In other Everton news, Farhad Moshiri wants a different manager in charge at Goodison Park.
