Kevin Campbell backs Everton to make move for Danny Ings
We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…
Kevin Campbell has backed Everton to “pull the trigger” with a move for Southampton striker Danny Ings.
It was reported by The Athletic that the England international has rejected a new contract at St Mary’s ahead of the new season.
Campbell believes it is time for a big move now, and tipped Rafa Benitez to hand him a way back to Merseyside.
Speaking exclusively to Goodison News, Campbell said, “I would think so.
“He’s a good player, knows where the net is. He has tried his luck on the other side of Merseyside and was pretty well-liked, but injuries stopped him from doing what he’s doing.
“He has found his feet again, his form, and now it’s time for a big move. I wouldn’t put it past Everton to pull the trigger.”
Ings has been banging in the goals for fun at Southampton, despite never being anywhere near Europe.
The Toffees are in a position to push for that next season, and big-name signings such as the striker would certainly help that.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin is number one at Goodison Park, but he has no real competition behind him, pushing him along.
Moise Kean looks set to exit the club, and if that is a permanent exit, there will be more than enough money on the table for Ings.
It will be interesting to see the moves that Benitez makes alongside Marcel Brands, but this would be a huge start.
