Everton could sign Dumfries for reported £13m fee, Benitez coy on links

Rafa Benitez batted away the question of Denzel Dumfries being linked with a move to Everton this summer.

The Dutch right-back, who performed exceptionally well at Euro 2020, was linked with the Toffees prior to Benitez’s arrival.

On a YouTube live stream for Voetbal International, their journalist Marco Timmer confirmed that Dumfries’ agent Mino Raiola was in contact with Everton over the sale of the 25-year-old.

Signing someone like Dumfries who’s in his prime for only £13million would be a steal and Benitez was asked about the speculation linking Everton with him in his press conference.

However, he remained coy and did not want to be dragged in to naming potential players that could come through the door at Goodison Park this summer.

Ideal Coleman replacement

We love Seamus Coleman but he’s 32 and has to be replaced either this summer or next.

Signing someone this window would prove to be beneficial as he would have an entire season where he could share the first-team minutes with Coleman.

Dumfries would be an ideal player to bring through the door this summer. He’s got experience of playing in international tournaments as well as continental club competitions and would strengthen our team for next season.

While chasing a game, Benitez could fancy throwing him on as his burst of pace could help turn defence into attack within the blink of an eye.

He may be extremely prolific at going forward and creating chances, but one thing that separates him from other full-backs is his aerial prowess.

Last season, he won 4.06 aerial duels per 90 minutes which put him in the top one percent of all full-backs in Europe’s top five leagues. [Statsbomb]

So not only would he help set up chances, he could also prove to be a set piece threat for us next season.
