Rafael Benitez discusses Everton's transfer plans

Everton manager Rafael Benitez has been speaking to the press for the first time and revealed his stance on transfers.

Benitez was appointed as the Toffees’ boss after Carlo Ancelotti returned to Real Madrid, and though he didn’t give away too much about his thoughts on transfers, he did indicate that he would be keen to improve his squad.

The Spaniard was not a popular choice with some Evertonians because of his links with Liverpool [Daily Mail]. Still, he spoke well in his press conference and provided some insight into what he wants to do this summer [Liverpool Echo].

He said: “The reality is that when you go to any club, the manager has an important opinion.

“You have to work in the context of when you have a director of football, the board, the financial restrictions. There are a lot of things you have to put together.”

Benitez’s message

So it is pretty clear that Benitez is willing to work alongside the board and Marcel Brands, which is a good thing given his reputation for fighting against owners [Reuters].

The important thing in there for Everton fans, though, is that he believes the Toffees can “improve” and that he intends to strengthen his squad.

This is an important message from Benitez and indicates that he is ambitious and wants to see the Toffees improve on their tenth-place finish in the Premier League last season.

However, as of yet, the Toffees have been rather quiet in the transfer market, but with their Premier League campaign due to start a month today, perhaps we will start to see more movement from Everton on the transfer front.

This was a strong press conference from Benitez, and it is clear he wants to improve his squad and push the club on, which can only be a good thing.

In other Everton news, Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Rafael Benitez is blocking a certain Everton star from leaving.
