Asmir Begovic given permission to speak with Everton

Bournemouth have given Asmir Begovic permission to speak to Everton after accepting their approach, according to Sky Sports editor Alan Myer.

The 34-year-old has just a year left on his current deal and is not in the Cherries plans for the season.

Everton want a quality cover for Jordan Pickford after not signing Robin Olsen permanently.

Myers took to his personal Twitter account to reveal the update:

Massive boost

Everton need to have a goalie capable of keeping Pickford on his toes for next season like Olsen did, and Begovic is perfect for the job.

The former Chelsea man is a veteran as they come, and his experience will definitely come in handy should a move to Goodison Park works out.

The Toffees have been handed a massive boost in their pursuit of the goalkeeper after Bournemouth gave him permission, and we believe it is up to him to make the final decision.

We are offering him the chance to play in the Premier League again, and he is not likely to turn that chance down.

With over 250 top-flight appearances to his name, Begovic is definitely going to be a solid addition to our goalkeeping department if a deal is done, and manager Rafa Benitez can have a key position sorted out quickly as we move to other transfers.

Major squad changes are expected in the coming weeks, and signings capable of boosting our chances of finishing in the top-six should be made.
