Asmir Begovic set for two year contract at Everton – Fabrizio Romano

Everton are progressing well with talks to sign Bournemouth goalkeeper Asmir Begovic this summer, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The transfer guru has reported that the Bosnian international will sign a two-year deal at Goodison Park.

All that appears left to do in the deal is Rafa Benitez’ seal of approval, which could see this deal complete within days.

Writing on his personal Twitter account on Friday, Romano shared the update as the Toffees close in on their first permanent signing.

“Everton have opened talks to sign Asmir Begovic on a free transfer from Bournemouth,” he wrote.

“Talks progressing on a two-years contract for Begovic, now waiting for Benitez final decision on goalkeepers situation.”

Here we go.

There is nothing like a Romano reveal on Twitter.

With Robin Olsen leaving Goodison Park last season after his loan spell, this was an area that needed addressing very quickly.

Jordan Pickford is the undisputed number one in Merseyside, that won’t change for many years to come, but we can’t rely on Joao Virginia as our number two.

Begovic has bags of experience in the Premier League, and will be perfect for this rotation role having made over 250 top-flight appearances.

Benitez shouldn’t have too many problems with this one, and once his approval is given, we should see this one completed with no problems.

Now that one of our priorities has been all-but-sorted, we should start to see the transfer business pick up – time to show your ambition Farhad Moshiri, time to back Benitez.
