Bournemouth goalkeeper Asmir Begovic passes medical at Everton
Bournemouth goalkeeper Asmir Begovic has passed his medical at Everton ahead of a free transfer move, according to talkSPORT.
The 34-year-old Bosnian international is set to sign a two-year deal at Goodison Park and will provide competition for first-choice Jordan Pickford.
Everton manager Rafael Benitez was keen to strengthen his goalkeeping options and viewed Begovic as the ideal man for the job.
Top choice
The veteran goalkeeper has over 250 Premier League appearances to his name playing for the likes of Bournemouth, Stoke City, Chelsea and Portsmouth, and he is definitely a decent cover and competition for Pickford.
We understand Begovic does not come across as an exciting signing, but the fact that Benitez approved of the deal means he is definitely a key addition.
While Pickford was brilliant for the Three Lions at the European Championship, his form at club level has often fluctuated, and we believe the arrival of Begovic would keep him on his toes.
Benitez never hesitates to wield the axe, and Pickford has to be at his best every time if he does not want to risk having a spell on the bench.
As it stands, the Bosnian goalie is set to be the Spaniard’s first signing as Everton boss, and we hope one or two marquee additions can be made to the squad this summer.
The Toffees need a solid defence and some depth in attack, and owner Farhad Moshiri will be keen to splash the cash again with a place in the Premier League top-six on his mind.
