Everton keen on Manchester United defender Diogo Dalot - reports

Everton are still interested in signing Manchester United right-back Diogo Dalot, according to The Athletic.

The right-back was understood to be on Carlo Ancelotti’s shortlist at the club last summer, but the Toffees did not substantiate their interest with a formal bid.

However, it seems that the decision-makers at the club fancy a move for the 22-year-old as he’s one of their transfer targets for this summer.

Dalot spent last season out on loan at AC Milan where he impressed for the most parts.

Per The Daily Mirror, Milan are also keen on re-signing him on loan, and Man United will allow the Portugal international to leave the club this summer.

Will take him

Dalot signed for Manchester United for a £19million fee three summers ago [BBC Sport], but the move hasn’t quite worked out for either party.

Having joined under Jose Mourinho, the right-back was given more of a chance under him, but once Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took over the reins at Old Trafford, he’s found playing time hard to come by.

While the Mirror report states that the club are willing to let him leave this summer, they do not specify whether or not they would be open to letting him leave permanently.

We’re looking for a long-term successor to Seamus Coleman and Dalot could be seen by the decision-makers at Goodison Park as one to take over the mantle from the Irishman in the future.

There have also been credible links to PSV Eindhoven right-back Denzel Dumfries [Rik Elfrink], who at this point, appears to be our first-choice option in that department.

Right-back is certainly a position of some concern that needs to be addressed sooner rather than later.

This window would be the ideal time to rope in an understudy who can learn the ropes and 12 months later be our first-choice option.
