Everton set to open talks with Bayer Leverkusen over Leon Bailey

Everton are set to open discussions with German club Bayer Leverkusen over the transfer of Jamaican international Leon Bailey, according to Pedro Almeida.

The Twitter-verified journalist made the claim on Wednesday morning [21/07/21], via his personal Twitter profile.

He wrote: “Aston Villa and Everton will open talks with Bayer Leverkusen to try to hire Leon Bailey.”

We’ve already had the arrivals of Andros Townsend and Asmir Begovic to Goodison Park, with Demarai Gray set to join the duo.

However, while they are all decent players, none of them are expected to be first-choice starters, certainly not immediately anyway.

But Bailey is absolutely someone for the here and now, and it would be a blockbuster signing if the Blues were to pull it off.

The 23-year-old has just come off the back of a sensational season for the Bundesliga giants, scoring nine times and registering eight assists in 30 league games, of which 25 were starts [WhoScored].

He’s a lightning-quick [BT Sport], left-footed winger who can strike the ball from distance, and his penchant for creating and scoring would go down very well at Goodison Park.

Bailey is exactly the sort of player the Blues require and fans are craving for, someone that can hog the left-hand touchline or cut in from the right and unleash thunderous long-range efforts.

There looks to be some competition for his signature – Premier League rivals Aston Villa are firmly in the hunt – but he would complete a quartet of fine wingers at the clubs.

Just imagine Richarlison and Bailey flanking Dominic Calvert-Lewin with Gray and Townsend to come off the bench.

It’s a mouthwatering prospect.

In other Everton news, the Blues are in work permit talks over a deal for this Dutch defender who was seen at Finch Farm recently.
