Everton do not have active interest in Sporting CP ace Matheus Nunes
Everton do not hold any active interest in Sporting CP midfielder Matheus Nunes, according to Liverpool Echo journalist Phil Kirkbride.
Speaking to Portuguese television channel CMTV earlier this month, ex-Sporting player Fernandes Mendes claimed that Nunes, 22, “will be sold to Everton”.
A Bola have also reported that the Portuguese ace will head to Goodison Park this summer for £15million with a further £1.5million in add-ons.
However, Kirkbride reports on the Liverpool Echo website that sources have told him there’s nothing in the links and there is “no active interest in Nunes”.
Cross him off, move on
Reports about Nunes joining Everton started to surface before Rafa Benitez was hired as manager so it was always an odd one.

Of course, Marcel Brands is the man responsible for bringing players in and shipping players out of Goodison Park and he did have the power to make signings prior to Benitez’s arrival.
However, Brands is a clever man and he knows that signing players that might not be used by the next manager would have been a bad idea.
Brands could have had a deal in place for Nunes to head to Merseyside if the move was sanctioned by Benitez, so there could have been some truth in these reports emanating from Portugal.
Benitez could have pulled the plug himself or, due to the profit and sustainability rules, Everton may have had to back out themselves due to the financial aspects of a deal.
We may have to sell before any new signings are made and with the new Premier League season kicking off soon, that sounds like we could be in for a busy few weeks at Goodison Park.
Our transfer business has been very underwhelming so far and we don’t see how Benitez is going to get an improvement out of this team.
In other Everton news, Fabrizio Romano has mooted a move to Goodison Park for this “perfect” midfielder who was once compared to Xavi.
