Kevin Campbell reacts to Everton links with Marco Asensio

We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…

Kevin Campbell was left thrilled this week as Everton were linked with a move for Real Madrid attacker Marco Asensio.

Fichajes reported last week that Carlo Ancelotti didn’t trust the Spain international, and the Toffees could take advantage of that.

Campbell did admit that he can’t see the move happening though, with numerous clubs interested in his services.

Speaking exclusively to Goodison News, Campbell said, “He works, I’ve watched him.

“He can score goals, he’s a really good player. Again, Spain and the Premier League is two different leagues, so there might have to be an adjustment.

“I can’t see that happening.”

Everton

Not trusted.

If Ancelotti reportedly doesn’t trust Asensio, what is to say that this would be a quality signing.

The Spaniard will be on big wages, would take a big fee to prize him away from the Bernabeu, and it could be another failure.

We can’t afford to make another big-money mistake, there have been far too many of those and Rafa Benitez is now paying the price.

The Spaniard is in a position where he needs to sell to bring players in, and that hasn’t happened for many years now.

Asensio surely isn’t the answer, no matter how good he can be, he hasn’t shown it enough in the past year.

Time will tell, but this is highly unlikely.
