Kevin Campbell hails Everton links with Matthew Hoppe

We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…

Kevin Campbell has hailed Everton as they plot a move for Schalke forward Matthew Hoppe this summer.

90min have reported that 11 Premier League clubs are interested in the American international, and could be available after relegation.

Campbell believes that backup is needed for Dominic Calvert-Lewin, and the 20-year-old would represent a smart piece of business.

Speaking exclusively to Goodison News, Campbell said, “Getting young players in gives you time to work with them and develop them.

“Calvert-Lewin is the main guy, so having a backup who is young, hungry and can develop is a good move.”

Smart.

With more than 50% of the Premier League interested, Hoppe is going to have a real decision to make this summer.

After winning the Gold Cup with the United States, a big move to Goodison Park would make it the perfect summer.

The Toffees are looking as though they now need to get rid of players before bringing any in, so it doesn’t look as though any move is imminent.

Hoppe will surely want to leave Germany after his relegation to the second-tier, and Schalke are said to need the money.

Rafa Benitez needs reinforcements in the final third, and with Calvert-Lewin still not returning to the squad, it could be a squad desperately light next week.

Signings are needed.
