Kevin Campbell predicts Everton result v Southampton

We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…

Kevin Campbell has backed Everton to open their Premier League season with a win against Southampton tomorrow.

The Toffees get their competitive games underway with Rafa Benitez in charge, with minimal transfer activity at Goodison Park.

Campbell believes that Southampton have had a worst window, though, with losing the likes of Danny Ings leaving them unsettled.

Speaking exclusively to Goodison News, Campbell said, “I think Everton will win the game 2-1.

“Transfers, you’ve got to the right things and Danny Ings’ contract was there, they knew he wanted to leave, these things happen.

“It might be unsettling, but Southampton are a decent club, there not quite there yet so I reckon Everton will take this one.”

Perfect start?

Benitez will just want to start his campaign with three points.

The performances will come with more match-practise, but getting the win in front of a packed home crowd will ease his nerves certainly.

Getting battered by Manchester United wasn’t ideal practise last week, but welcoming back the likes of Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison will help.

James Rodriguez will be missing and although Benitez may not be too fussed about that one, it does put pressure on one of our new signings to perform.

Time to get going again, hopefully with the perfect start.
