Jeff Stelling slams Everton defender Yerry Mina v Leeds United
Jeff Stelling vented his fury at Everton defender Yerry Mina during the first half of their Premier League clash against Leeds United on Saturday.
Speaking on Sky Sports Soccer Saturday [21/08/21], presenter Stelling hit out at the 26-year-old Colombian after a clash with Leeds striker Patrick Bamford.
“For goodness sake man, stand up,” Stelling said. “What an embarrassment.
“It’s Yerry Mina we’re talking about.”
Sky Sports pundit Michael Dawson said: “It’s pathetic, Yerry Mina is trying to buy a bit of time, he’s had the slightest of touches to his face and he’s gone down. It was soft.”
Stelling added: “The Leeds fans are going to absolutely hammer him.”
Mina is someone that tends to cause great consternation among opposition players and fans, but he’s generally well-loved by Everton and Colombia supporters.
He’s a powerful, fiery figure that wears his heart on his sleeve.
But it has to be said, he definitely has form for theatrics on the pitch.
If trouble is brewing on the pitch, you can bet Mina is in the thick of the action.
That much was evident at the recent Copa America tournament.
However, given the struggles of Michael Keane and Mason Holgate, we are content to overlook those issues.
Mina started last week’s Premier League opener versus Southampton on the bench but he was handed a starting role against Leeds on Saturday in place of Holgate.
Hopefully, the South American can stay injury-free this season and form a formidable partnership with Ben Godfrey once he returns from isolation.
