Kevin Campbell: Everton could make move for Serge Aurier after injury blow

We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…

Kevin Campbell has insisted that Everton could make a move for free agent defender Serge Aurier this month.

The Toffees have seen their captain Seamus Coleman pick up a hamstring injury during the international break, leaving them with no senior right-back.

Campbell believes Rafa Benitez wants availability, and the Express have also linked the Ivorian with Goodison Park

Speaking exclusively to Goodison News, Campbell said, “That might be another thing for Serge Aurier on a free.

“Coleman has been such a fantastic performer, a stalwart for Everton but the injuries just keep racking up.

“The best ability is availability as a footballer, and the manager needs his players available – Seamus is well thought of, but if you’re not available, you’re no use.”

Smart move?

It’s a real shame that Coleman has pulled up with yet another injury, especially given how well he has started this season.

The Irish international has captained us to a brilliant start yet again in this new solid setup in Merseyside, but it looks as though he will be sidelined for the near future.

Aurier is available after his exit from Spurs and is open to a move to another Premier League club.

Whether the right-back would fall into our budget is another question, but it will be interesting to see if there is any movement in the coming days and weeks.
