Everton sign Francis Okoronkwo in deal worth up to £1million

Everton have signed Francis Okoronkwo in a deal that could be worth up to £1million, according to Daily Mail journalist Craig Hope.

The North-East football correspondent, writing via his personal Twitter profile on Monday [13/09/21], claims the teenager has joined the Blues.

Hope said: “This deal is now done. Francis Okoronkwo has joined Everton from Sunderland in a move worth up to £1million.”

Big talent

Okoronkwo is a big talent in every sense.

Standing at 6ft 3in tall, the attacker is a sizeable figure at the top of the pitch despite still being in his mid-teens.

He impressed for Sunderland Under-18s last season and that’s where he is likely to be placed for Everton during the 2021/22 campaign, unless he exceeds expectations and makes a run for the Under-23s with David Unsworth.

It looks like the Blues are beginning a rebuild of sorts in their youth ranks, getting rid of unwanted players whose progress has stalled at the club, and bringing in some of the most exciting talents from around the country.

Everton already have some promising young strikers of their own in Lewis Dobbin and Ellis Simms, though both are further along in their development than Okoronkwo.

Last season, Okoronkwo made 17 appearances in the Under-18 Premier League, scoring three goals and supplying three assists.

He also scored and registered an assist in Sunderland’s 4-3 win over the Blues in May.
