Adrian Durham: Give Newcastle fans a cuddle as Rondon makes Everton debut

Adrian Durham has aimed a jibe at Newcastle United fans after Salomon Rondon made his debut for Everton on Monday night.

Rondon, 31, came off the bench to play in the closing stages of the 3-1 win over Burnley at Goodison Park.

Rafa Benitez and Rondon were immensely popular with Newcastle fans during their time at St James’ Park but both have now been reunited on Merseyside.

And Durham has suggested that could be a bitter pill to swallow for Geordies who wanted Rondon’s loan from West Brom to be made permanent and for Mike Ashley to sort out a new contract for Benitez prior to his exit.

“Rafa brings on Rondon,” said Durham via his personal Twitter account on Monday night after the 81st-minute substitution.

“If you know a Newcastle United fan, give them a cuddle.”

Sob on the Tyne?

Poor Newcastle fans, they’ve been through a lot.

They used to have Rondon and Benitez – now they have Joelinton and Steve Bruce.

It is a shame for them because their fans deserve better than what they get from controversial owner Ashley. But Newcastle’s loss is our gain.

Benitez has made a flying start to life in the Goodison Park hot seat, leading the Blues to three wins and a draw in his first four Premier League matches.

Of course, we haven’t played one of the big hitters just yet and won’t have to until October when Manchester United welcome us to Old Trafford on the 2nd.

We play Aston Villa, QPR in the Carabao Cup and Norwich before this month is over and that could put us in really good stead going into that match against Man United.

Rafa deserves immense credit for the work he’s done so far and so do his new signings of Andros Townsend and Demarai Gray.

Let’s hope Rondon can follow in their footsteps and start like a house on fire at Goodison Park.

In other Everton news, Gary Lineker and Chris Sutton were floored by what this Blues player did against Burnley.
