Andy Townsend waxes lyrical of Andros Townsend performance v Everton
Andy Townsend was left thrilled by how Andros Townsend helped Everton beat Burnley by a convincing 3-1 scoreline on Monday night.
Having gone behind, the Toffees showed great resilience to get back into the game and it was a credit to Townsend, who first played an assist for Michael Keane’s equaliser before scoring a spectacular long ranger to put his side in the lead.
Townsend, who was on co-commentary for the game on Premier League Productions’ World Feed, ran out of superlatives to describe the Englishman.
The former Premier League midfielder said of the assist, “Magnificent. That was a really good ball in from Townsend. He got the space to cross it in and found his man. Brilliant.”
And once again, was there to wax his lyrical after he scored in the 65th minute of the game.
“Scorcher, absolute scorcher,” said Townsend. “If he gets it on his left side, you know it’s going in.
“What a beautiful strike. He’s shaped that one into the top corner and it was absolutely perfect.”
It was such a special performance from the team and most importantly from Townsend.
There were plenty of eyebrows raised when Rafa Benitez opted to bring him in, but games like these are why the Toffees opted to sign him.
He also joined on a free transfer as his contract at Crystal Palace expired so there wasn’t too much financial risk going into the move.
Benitez was confident that he’s getting a player, who may be on the wrong side of 30, but is still good enough to put in a shift for the Toffees.
Hopefully, Townsend continues to deliver these kinds of performances on a regular basis as it’s thrilling to watch him in action.
His left-footed strikes are a thing of beauty and it will be interesting to see whether Benitez urges him to have similar cracks at goal in the future as he can clearly hit a ball with some venom.
